Genre: North African Rock, World Music

Don’t miss The Leila’s debut at Top of the Park! Born in Morocco, Leila grew up in a culturally rich environment. She drew her inspiration from the diverse musical styles of the region, including the rhythmic dance of Reggada, an Algerian variation of Andalusian classical music known as Gharnati, and Algerian Chaâbi.Her vibrant music is a harmonious mixture of these various regional styles, which she marries with grace and lightness to her interest in rock music. She has termed the resulting style North African Rock. Coming from a conservative environment where she had to fight for her right to be a musician, Leila’s passion is front and center in her art. An authentic singer with a powerful voice, her music reflects the influence of her regional roots and world music with smart songwriting that mixes Moroccan Arabic (known as Darija) and English. Catch what is sure to be a lively and transformative set at A2SF this summer.
