Retreat: Hawaiian Hula

Melanee Hirvela is an experienced Polynesian dance instructor with a focus on Hawaiian Hula. With over 30 years of training, she serves as the lead instructor, coordinator, and artistic director of Hoaloha Polynesian Dance Group. She studies as a Ho’opa’a (hula chanter) under Dr. Amy Ku‘uleialoha Stillman at the Great Lakes Hula Academy and continues to expand her expertise through workshops with Kumu Hula and other Polynesian dance masters.

Melanee has performed at and coordinated many public and private events, including one of the Midwest’s largest hula workshops and the first Asian American Pacific Islander event in Northville, Michigan. She also offers the Hula for Health program in Michigan, promoting wellness through dance. A classroom teacher for over 20 years, Melanee is passionate about sharing cultural dance, fitness, and appreciation for other cultures with her students.
