Mona Haydar

Genre: Rap
Rapper, poet, and activist Mona Haydar brings her powerful music to A2SF this summer. Growing up in Flint, Michigan as a Syrian-American, Haydar developed a sound which is deeply rooted in her intersectional identity and sensibilities. The multi-hyphenate artist defies easy definition, known as much for her talents in performance and poetry as she is for her skills as an educator, activist, chaplain, and even TV host, a duty shared with her husband Sebastian for the PBS show The Great Muslim American Road Trip. Billboard critics declared Haydar’s debut song, “Hijabi (Wrap My Hijab)” to be one of 2017’s top protest songs and then later named it one of the 25 top feminist anthems of all time. Her work has been featured and displayed in museums everywhere from San Francisco to The Netherlands. In addition to playing concerts and gigs, Haydar continues to perform her poetry, offers workshops, and leads retreats all over the world. Her socially conscious lyrics, agile style, and thoughtful beats are not to be missed at Top of the Park!
