A2SF welcomes Ypsilanti-based John E. Lawrence, one of Michigan’s most respected guitarists, this summer! Formerly Head of the Music Performance Program and the Chair of the Performing Arts Department at Washtenaw Community College, he was an instructor for thirty-six years and has written sixteen guitar instructional books. In the world of performance, Lawrence served as musical director and lead guitarist for vocalist Carl Carlton for his “She’s A Bad Mama Jama” tour. They were the opening act for such iconic artists as Smokey Robinson, Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie and the Commodores, Rick James, and Teena Marie. His latest release is the smooth jazz gem “Cruisin’ on the Southside.” Come sway to the cool breeze and John E. Lawrence’s smooth vibes at Top of the Park!
