Janelle Haskell
Genre: Folk, Jazz Folk
After a decade in NYC touring the world as a jazz saxophonist and clarinetist with bandleaders such as Wynton Marsalis and Doc Severinsen, Janelle Haskell decided to make a musical switch to an old love: folk music. Gathering influence from the jazz-inspired harmonies of Joni Mitchell, the finger-picking guitar of James Taylor, and other artists who’ve bridged that delicate gap between folk and jazz, Haskell’s songs draw heavily upon her personal experiences in love, life, and navigating the path from a busy city girl to one living back at home in the open spaces of the Midwest. She recently celebrated the release of her second full-length album titled Dedications & Postcards, which debuted before a sold-out house at Michigan’s own The Rumpus Room last year. At A2SF this summer, she’ll be playing songs from her new album along with a combination of other new and older material.
