Spearheaded in 2011 by fifth-generation musician Dameon Gabriel, Gabriel Brass Band is a family tradition passed down for six generations. The music began with patriarch Narcisse Gabriel, a bass player who migrated to New Orleans from Hispaniola in 1856, and continued with several groups under the Gabriel moniker after the family moved to Detroit in the 1940s. The band continues to keep that energy alive with Dameon, fellow members of the Gabriel family, and a host of close friends. Their performance this summer is sure to delight audiences with their joyfully modern take on that classic New Orleans jazz sound.
