Launched in 2011 by fifth-generation musician Dameon Gabriel, Gabriel Brass Band is truly a family tradition. The music began with patriarch Narcisse Gabriel, a bass player who migrated to New Orleans in 1856, and continued with several groups under the Gabriel moniker after the family moved to Detroit in the 1940s. The band continues to keep that energy alive with Dameon, fellow members of the Gabriel family, and other longtime collaborators. Maintaining a powerful cultural connection between the Crescent City and the Motor City, Gabriel Brass Band preserves a sound shaped by history, migration, and community. Their joyfully modern take on that classic New Orleans jazz sound is sure to delight audiences this summer!
