A2SF welcomes back Ann Arborite singer-songwriter Anne Erlewine and the graceful stylings of her contemporary folk, joined by guitarist and lap steel player Alex Anest and bassist Ozzie Andrews, both local culture jammers attuned to carving sonic balance with skill and sensitivity. Erlewine explores the most tender expressions of sound with the strum of her deceptively stark acoustic guitar and exquisite lyricism and a painterly tone, unsurprising given that she is also a visual artist. Her debut album Over the Bones was produced by acclaimed singer-songwriter Chris Bathgate and recorded at High Bias Recordings in Detroit, with the musical support of local artists. The resulting sound is pure neo-Americana, reflective and vulnerable in equal measure. Her meditative and emotionally resonant folk music is not to be missed at an A2SF stage this summer!

Years later, Vega performed with Olivera before a crowd of 30,000 at the Cleveland Puerto Rican Festival. He has promoted his own work while touring Puerto Rico, opening for Latin greats El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and many other prominent artists. He has also performed with Elias Lopes, one of Puerto Rico’s most influential Latin Jazz trumpeters. He has toured and headlined with Tito Puente, Jr., and recorded his own CDs produced by Latin jazz luminaries like the saxophonist Luis Disla and Grammy nominee and award winner Chino Nunez. An accomplished young artist, she has toured nationally with Latin-Grammy awarded group Flor de Toloache and opened for internationally known Latin bands like Los Lobos and Las Cafeteras. Cantu’s sound honors both Motown and Latin diaspora, blending live instrumentation as well as electronically produced sounds to create colorful, nostalgic soundscapes that transport listeners to her creative state of mind. Tae & The Neighborly, a Wisconsin based Soul-pop R&B group, found themselves playing music together in a very unconventional way. They were all neighbors, each one living alone on one floor of a five-story flat. Cake baking is a shared passion of the five member group, but in the sugar shortages early in the 2020 pandemic, they found themselves so continually knocking on each other’s doors asking for a single cup of sugar that a group decision was made to all move in together and share cake-baking resources. And since everyone knows all good rhythms begin in the kitchen, it wasn’t before long that the group began to write and perform together across the nation. Critics hail the group as “having more kick than a bagged-up mule” (Rotary Times) and their live show “…going down smoother than a can of [beans] warmed on the campfire” (Cowboy Gazette).

Genres: Outlaw Country, Classic Rock, Americana

Experience the fantastical folky vibes of Fangs and Twang at an A2SF stage this summer. Founded in 2014 with a theatrical concept, Fangs and Twang has evolved into a genre-blending powerhouse that fuses gothic horror, cryptozoology, classic rock, Americana, and outlaw country into a high-energy live show. Their eclectic sound delivers both humor and substance, capturing audiences with songs that tell stories about Great Lakes mermaids battling ruthless pirates and Michigan icon Bob Seger meeting a lovesick abominable snowman. While their earlier records revel in mythical mayhem, their latest LP You Monster also confronts the real monsters among us: polarization, misinformation, and broken discourse. The album’s title track video earned ‘Best Animated Music Video’ at the 2024 Michigan Music Video Awards and they’re returning to the studio this year with new music on the way. In their world, the raw energy of rock ‘n’ roll meets the eerie charm of Transylvanian tombs while vampires commiserate with werewolves in a back-alley bar. Come dance to the creepy country vibes at Top of the Park!

From Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo to the intimate living rooms of fans, the group’s chemistry has helped them garner a dedicated following across the world. After taking a hiatus, the band has now released their 6th album On the Northline, a lyrically dense and melodically lovely collection of songs that further explore Milia’s fascination and deliver more of the magic that led AllMusic to deem Frontier Ruckus “one of the best things to come out of Michigan since Faygo Redpop.” Don’t miss what’s sure to be a captivating set at Top of the Park this summer!

Don’t miss their authentic, bluesy performance at A2SF this summer!

Genres: Circus Punk, Marching Band

A2SF is proud to welcome the genre-blending stylings of Mucca Pazza back this summer! This Chicago-based interdisciplinary instrumental music and performance ensemble was born in a steel mill parking lot along the Chicago River in 2004. The group quickly found a home for its 30-odd members in the thriving Chicago underground music scene, thanks to a truly exciting combination of marching band traditions, the spectacle of street theater, and rock and roll sensibilities. Their original compositions and unparalleled visual presence, eccentric and frenetic in equal measure, earned Mucca Pazza critical praise and a loyal local following. Since then, they’ve toured North America and performed everywhere from Lollapalooza to the Montreal Jazz Festival. Appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert further buoyed the energetic group, which has also licensed music to television shows like Weeds and Transparent. Their colorful exuberance and thrilling energy is not to be missed at Top of the Park!

Genres: Afro-Cuban Jazz, Latin Jazz, World Music

OKAN brings their passionate Afro-Cuban jazz to an A2SF stage this summer! Fusing their Afro-Cuban roots with jazz, folk, and global rhythms in songs about immigration, resistance, and love, OKAN takes their name from the word for heart in their Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria. With vocals in Spanish, Yoruba, and Spanglish, OKAN is led by Cuban-born violinist and vocalist Elizabeth Rodriguez and percussionist and vocalist Magdelys Savigne, both Grammy and Latin-Grammy nominees. Building on their Juno-winning sophomore Espiral (2020) and Juno-nominated debut Sombras (2019), their most recent release Okantomi, winner of a 2024 Juno Award, passionately advocates for freedom of expression, queer rights, and gender equality through what CBC Music calls “joy as a form of resistance.” Charged with the profound power of their ancestry, OKAN alchemizes Lacumi chants and Santeria rhythms with virtuosic jazz, classical performances, and indie-pop hooks to connect with audiences on a deep emotional level. Don’t miss their mesmerizing harmonies and virtuosic musicianship at Top of the Park!

A2SF welcomes back Grammy Award-winning harmonica virtuoso Peter Madcat Ruth and his CARMa Quartet! A hometown hero who has been living in Ann Arbor since 1970, Ruth is a fixture on the festival scene with his ukulele, jaw harp, and kalimba in addition to his iconic harmonica. With the CARMa Quartet, he continues to explore musical strands that reverberate throughout his career: American roots music, blues, folk, and jazz, presented as an eclectic mix of traditional and improvisational music. The CARMa Quartet features musicians from across the sonic spectrum, including Grammy Award-winning tabla drummer John Churchville; bassist Brennan Andes, a founding member of The Macpodz; and guitarist/vocalist Dan Ripke, who performed with the rock-bluegrass quintet Back Forty for 15 years. You can count on Peter Madcat Ruth’s CARMa Quartet to bring plenty of passion and decades of skill for a uniquely delightful performance at Top of the Park this summer!

Easily excitable Neal Page is somewhat of a control freak. Trying to get home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife and kids, his flight is rerouted to a distant city in Kansas because of an unexpected snowstorm, and his sanity begins to fray. Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del Griffith, whom he finds extremely annoying. Together, they must overcome the chaos of holiday travel to reach their intended destination.
