Retreat: Swing Dance Lessons with Swing Ann Arbor

Tuesday, June 23 at 5:30PM | Retreat

Join Swing Ann Arbor for a fun and dynamic swing dance lesson! We’ll learn the basics of Lindy Hop, a partnered social dance that comes from the Harlem Renaissance. We’ll dance to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington.

This lesson will start by grooving in our own bodies before connecting with a partner, then learning some basic rhythms and shapes to get us improvising to music! Students will be encouraged to rotate partners throughout the lesson, as this social dance is best practiced with a big community. All fitness and ability levels are welcome, you don’t need to bring a partner, just some comfy clothes and lightweight shoes you can easily move in.

Swing Ann Arbor is an organization at the University of Michigan that aims to provide Southeast Michigan with high-quality swing dance instruction and weekly dances. Swing Ann Arbor is open to everyone regardless of experience or affiliation. You do not need to be a student at the University of Michigan to attend our events. And, you never need a partner to attend any lesson or dance!
