Southeast Michigan-based Americana trio Stella! bring their country-roots songwriting and lovely three-part harmonies to an A2SF stage this summer. Singer-songwriter Jo Serrapere formed the band in 2009 after a conversation with music writer Dave Marsh sparked the idea. The current line-up includes Serrapere on guitar and percussion, Jen Sygit on acoustic and electric guitars and banjo, and Julianna Wilson on upright bass and ukulele. Their most recent album, Stella Tells the Truth, features ten stirring Americana songs inspired by the state of Michigan, exploring vulnerability and existentialism from a playful yet worldly perspective. While rooted in a traditional folk style, the musicians of Stella! are variously inspired by everything from old-time string bands and swing-era jazz to acoustic soul.
