Jordan Hamilton
Genre: Avant-Garde Soul, Experimental Hip-Hop
A2SF welcomes back Kalamazoo cellist and vocalist Jordan Hamilton, whose maverick music infuses modern classical with avant-garde soul. Drawn to the cosmic possibilities of cello’s tone, Hamilton combines songwriting, loop pedals, sample machines, and vocals to craft his singular sound. The result is a sonic journey through experimental hip-hop, soul, R&B, and jazz that has been described as “part political activism, part hopefulness, part performance art, part soundscapes, and all entirely mesmerizing” by John Sinkevics in Local Spins. Hamilton’s music thrums with an emotional energy built on artistic integrity, eclectic rhythms, otherworldly expression, and nimble grooves. His latest album Project Freedom, set to be released in late July, is built around the unconventional ways he applies the cello to play chords, layer melodies, and craft songs, all while breaking limitations and leaping across boundaries. His set at Top of the Park this summer is not to be missed!
