Michigan artist Laynie Cantu Plews brings Cantu, her newest project, to A2SF this summer. She is joined by frequent collaborator Anthony Emery, a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter who enriches their music with lead guitar, vocals, and country-western stylings. Plews’ early gigs include singing with Americana group The Carboys and performing with various jazz trios in West Michigan, after which she began shaping her own style when she and Emery formed a band in 2019. The new lineup is completed by the superb rhythm section of Travis Coakley on percussion and Josh Burd on bass. Drawing on inspiration from folk, country blues, and Latin tunes, the music of Cantu is sure to reflect their collective eclectic backgrounds while looking toward a new sound with beauty and authority.
